Seeking Direction from the Lord

How do you know what the Lord wants? How can we be certain we are not only seeking, but also following his direction? How can we truly know the Will of God?

Although our heart longs to please and obey Him, we may find it difficult to determine His will for our lives. This is currently a battle in my own life: I truly want to follow Him and trust that He is in control…. But it is not easy to let go & give Him full control. It is easy for me to trust the Lord with “black and white issues”- when something is clearly wrong or right… when one way is obviously the wrong way it is easier to run in the right direction… but when things are not crystal clear and there may not be a right or wrong, I become full of anxiety.

Proverbs 16:1- We humans make plans, but the Lord has the final word.
Proverbs 16:33- We make our own decisions, but the Lord alone determines what happens.

Many times we are offered a number of different directions, opportunities or events. As humans, we dwell on- “which option/ outcome will make me happiest?” Then we begin looking for signs of affirmation to justify the option that we may be secretly leaning towards.

“The More we look for signs, the less we will trust in the Lord’s Word.” ~Greg Matte

Instead of looking at circumstances with my human eyes, I need to examine things through God’s eyes… I shouldn’t do what “feels right,” but what is right.

No matter what decisions, directions, or paths you have chosen in life, the Lord is with you and will use all circumstances for good if you let go and trust Him! I have messed up, taken wrong turns, and many times done nothing (ignored). Time and time again the Lord has shown his Mercy and Grace…. No matter how bad it gets, He always pulls me through and makes me stronger than I was before. But still I struggle to give Him control! It amazes me that he hasn’t completely given up or said- “Laura- Will you ever get it?? Will you ever let go?? I am not going to let you fail!”

These past few days I have been replaying Mighty to Save by Laura Story”

“Take me as you find me, All my fears and failures
Fill my life again
I give my life to follow, everything that I believe in
Now I surrender

Savior- He can move the mountains
My God is mighty to save- He is mighty to save
Forever, Author of salvation
He rose and conquered the grave
Jesus conquered the grave!”

I want Christ to fill my life with His love, His Joy, and His Grace. I can never save myself- no matter where I go or what I do… only He can save me and only He will be able to meet my expectations. EVERYTHING else in this world will disappoint me- no matter how desirable it may seem.

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding

My Understanding is foolish compared to the Knowledge of God. He knows exactly what my future holds and today I am choosing to give him the steering wheel. Although I so badly want to be in control, I know that I will eventually crash if I continue to blindly drive my life.

"The will of God will never take you where the grace of God will not protect you"

“A person who lives by faith must proceed in incomplete evidence, trusting in advance what will only make since in reverse.” ~Phillip Yancey
